The objective of the project is to raise awareness and provide education on the prevention of burn injuries, both accidental and intentional (homicidal). The key goals include assessing the knowledge level of the general public, designing and developing suitable health messages on burn prevention, and distributing them effectively. Additionally, the project aims to enhance coordination among healthcare providers, government agencies, and NGOs to increase awareness about burn prevention. Special focus is placed on educating school-going children and industrial workers through health education campaigns.

The plan of action for the assignment includes the following:

Preparation of Reports:

Four copies of an interim report and five copies of the final report will be created.

Implementation of Events:

The events and activities included in the project will be implemented according to the requirements and directions outlined in the Terms of Reference (TOR).

TV Documentary:

A master copy of the TV documentary will be prepared in Beta/DV format or any other compatible format. It will be submitted to the L&HEP (BHE) along with the final report on a pen drive.

Booklet and Leaflet Design:

The design of the booklet and leaflet will be created in an AI or any other compatible format. The softcopy of the design will be submitted to the L&HEP (BHE) along with the final report on a pen drive.

The objective of the Inception Workshop is as follows:

Share the Objective of the Package:

The purpose is to communicate and clarify the objective of the package, which is the prevention of burn injuries. This includes both accidental and intentional (homicidal) burns.

Share the Draft SBCC Materials:

The workshop aims to present the draft Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) materials that will be produced for burn prevention. These materials could include brochures, posters, videos, or any other relevant communication tools.

Share the Implementation Strategy and Tentative Work Plan:

The workshop will outline the proposed implementation strategy and present a tentative work plan for executing the package. This includes the timeline, activities, and roles and responsibilities of the stakeholders involved.

Receive Suggestions and Recommendations for Finalization of SBCC Materials:

Participants of the workshop will have the opportunity to provide feedback, suggestions, and recommendations for improving and finalizing the SBCC materials. This ensures that the materials effectively convey the message of burn prevention.

Receive Suggestions and Inputs for Finalization of Work Plan:

The workshop will also seek input and suggestions from the participants to refine and finalize the work plan. This allows for incorporating valuable insights and ensuring a comprehensive and well-executed plan.

On March 5, 2023, an Inception Workshop was conducted under the chairmanship of the Line Director, L&HEP, BHE. The workshop involved the participation of 30 individuals, including the Line Director and other personnel from L&HEP, as well as relevant stakeholders.

The purpose of the workshop was to initiate the project and gather valuable insights and recommendations from the participants. The objectives covered during the workshop included sharing the project’s objectives, presenting the draft SBCC materials on burn prevention, discussing the implementation strategy and tentative work plan, and receiving suggestions and inputs for finalizing both the SBCC materials and the work plan.

The Inception Workshop served as a collaborative platform for sharing information, exchanging ideas, and obtaining valuable feedback from the participants, who represented various levels and perspectives. Their input will be instrumental in refining and finalizing the SBCC materials and work plan for the prevention of burn injuries.

Media Coverage

The leaflet and booklet developed as part of the IEC materials received positive feedback from campaign participants, who found them comprehensive and informative. Both girls and boys from all six schools showed great enthusiasm and actively participated in the campaign. The girl students, in particular, displayed a high level of concern regarding fire incidents and expressed a desire to learn about fire control in different situations.

 

Distinguished guests and teachers recommended incorporating the issue of fire prevention into the school curriculum. Officials from the Fire Service and Civil Defence expressed their appreciation for the campaign’s effectiveness in raising awareness among school students about burn prevention. They further suggested expanding the program to include all schools in the country.
