PIACT Bangladesh, in collaboration with the then IEM Unit of Directorate of Family Planning (DFP) , promoted use of modern contraceptive methods for planned child birth by couples. In this regard ,PIACT Bangladesh developed informational materials on different modern contraceptive methods which included IEC materials , field workers guides on and clinicians manuals on oral contraceptives ,injectable contraceptives, intrauterine devices ( copper-T) , and female and male sterilization. The materials were produced and distributed to the target audiences with support from Directorate of Family planning. PIACT Bangladesh conducted quantitative and qualitative studies on the safety issues and use- effectiveness of different contraceptive methods including testing quality of condoms of the government as well as SMC collecting those from the distribution points at different tiers, central warehouse to the Upazila stores of DFP, and for SMC condoms from the grocery shops.

 

The results were provided to DFP/SMC for necessary action. The studies /surveys included the following:

  • Causes of differential performances of FP workers
  • Motivational factors that determine the non-use contraceptives
  • Acceptability of injectable contraceptives for breastfeeding women
  • Comparative studies of regular dose and low dose oral contraceptives both in rural and urban areas
  • Prospective study of complications of contraceptive sterilization procedure
  • After- effect of contraceptive sterilization
  • Evaluation of the national IUD program
  • A study on the IUD complications and use-effectiveness
  • A study on motivational and referral fee system under population control program
  • A study to understand the role of village doctors in family planning services
  • Physical Inventory of Family Planning and Maternal & Child Health Commodities
  • Stock Level Surveys of FP Commodities
  • Alternate Approaches to Contraceptive Logistics Management at Peripheral level.
